PETR BOROVEC

PHOTOGRAPHY

"I try to capture the fleeting moments of life and the beauty that I find."

About

Petr Borovec is a Czech amateur photographer based in Ostrava. He was born in 1966 in former Czechoslovakia.

The first time he looked into the viewer of father’s camera he was just a child. He spent long hours in the darkroom with him, learning how to process black and white films and to make darkroom prints.

Influenced by the work of many famous Czech photographers, especially Josef Sudek, he became increasingly interested in creative photography after completing obligatory military service.

He had quit photography several times only to return to it after a while. And while trying to become a professional photographer, he found that creative freedom is the most important thing for him. Eventually, he tragically lost all negatives and photos on the hard disk.

He picked up the camera again in 2016. At that time he decided for analog photography and minimalism.

In 2017 he created a series of analogue photos that are themed around finding beauty in everyday life.

In 2018, thanks to his second-hand iPhone 5s, he rediscovered the magic of square format and black and white photography and created a series of photographs called iPhonegrafia.

In 2019 he found himself in the ideas of Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama and since 2020 he has been using the RICOH GR II digital camera exclusively.
